Nick Ciufo and Geoff Ostrove are lifelong friends and business partners who met at Rio Mesa High School, which is surrounded by agricultural fields. But they didn’t envision a future in farming when they graduated with the class of 2006.

The company specializes in “functional mushrooms,” those that offer a health benefit other than just nutrition, which it sells whole to gourmet restaurants and in forms such as powders, gummies and tinctures at health food stores.
